Paper Excellence Canada publishes its fourth sustainability report

For Immediate Release:

[Richmond, BC]—Today Paper Excellence Canada published its fourth sustainability report: New Horizons: Paper Excellence Canada to Become Part of a Bigger Whole.

This is the final sustainability report the company will publish as Paper Excellence Canada, which is integrating with Domtar and Resolute Forest Products to create a single, larger and more diversified entity.

The report provides an annual overview of the company’s 2023 sustainability performance – primarily comprised of five operating mills in British Columbia and Saskatchewan. Throughout the report, Paper Excellence Canada identifies its achievements and opportunities to do better.

“I’m particularly proud of the energy profile of these mills. This reflects both our long-standing efforts to replace carbon intensive fuels, and our sustained commitment to reach for the higher-hanging fruit of further energy-efficiency improvements and carbon reductions,” said Sabrina Branco, Global Head of Sustainability, Paper Excellence Group.

In addition to the hard data, seven “Practices and Perspectives” videos are included in the report, highlighting employee stories and perspectives. These include topics like capturing biogenic carbon emissions, learning how to retain global talent, and rising to the challenge when wildfire closed the road to their mill.

“I’m also proud we were able to include two sustainability-related awards in the report,” said Branco. “Once again, Corporate Knights recognized our ongoing efforts by naming us one of Canada’s Best 50 Corporate Citizens in 2023. And for the first time, Foresight Canada awarded us Corporate Pioneer of the Year as part of their BC Cleantech Awards, in recognition of how we’ve been adopting, championing and leading sustainable practices in our industry. Third-party recognition is crucial to our success.”

The full sustainability report, including the “Practices and Perspectives” stories, can be found on the Paper Excellence website. The report is available as an online document and a downloadable PDF: Sustainability Report – Paper Excellence.
