Located on the western edge of the Canadian Rocky Mountains in the East Kootenay region of British Columbia, Skookumchuck Pulp is a vital employer to the area. Commissioned in 1968, Skookumchuck Pulp has seen substantial modernization work making the mill one of Domtar’s most sophisticated facilities. Skookumchuck is a word derived from the local First Nations language meaning “strong water” and the name of the creek that supplies the mill with water. The Domtar Skookumchuck Pulp Mill Incorporated facility is a leading producer of high quality Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft pulps. These pulps are used by customers worldwide to make a wide variety of products from tissue and paper towels to fine writing paper.
