The Heart of Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce named our Nekoosa Mill as its 2023 Large Business of the Year. The mill was recognized for its economic impact on the community, business growth, adaptation to marketplace change and dedication to customer service, community investment and leadership.

Awarded by Great Place To Work® – 2019 and 2020

Domtar has been certified as a Great Place To Work® based on a confidential, externally-run survey of U.S. employees in Pulp & Paper and Corporate functions, along with an analysis of our employee programs and policies. 

Results were evaluated by the Great Place to Work organization, comparing Domtar to some of the best employee-ranked companies around the world.

Awarded by Forbes – 2018, 2019 and 2023

Domtar has been names as one of Canada’s Best Employers in 2018 (ranked 186), 2019 (ranked 151) and 2023 (ranked 291).

Canada’s Best Employers list is compiled by Forbes in collaboration with online research firm Statista, ranking 300 Canadian companies across 25 industry sectors.

Statista annually surveys 8,000 Canadians working for large firms and institutions—those with 500 or more employees, asking them whether they would recommend their employers on a scale of 0 through 10, with 10 being the most positive. Respondents were surveyed through online access panels—not through their employers—and their gender, age, region, education level and ethnicity was representative of Canadian employees in general.

Domtar has been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Employers For Diversity by Forbes for 2022.

Forbes partnered with market research company Statista to identify the Canadian companies most dedicated to diversity, equity and inclusion with our inaugural ranking of Canada’s Best Employers for Diversity. The list was compiled by surveying 10,000 Canadians working for businesses with at least 500 employees in Canada. The final list ranks the 150 employers that not only received the most recommendations but also boast the most diverse boards and executive ranks and the most proactive diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Company of the Year

On November 22, 2023, Best in Biz Awards (North America) named Resolute a silver winner in the Company of the Year category. The company was recognized for its overall excellence in areas such as company culture, innovation, social and environmental responsibility, and employee well-being programs. Over 600 public and private companies from all sectors of the North American economy competed in the 13th year of this annual awards program, judged by independent panels of prominent writers and editors from top-tier publications.

Claudia Roberge earns bronze in the Female Achiever/Committed Professional of the Year category

On October 4, 2023, Resolute’s Claudia Roberge, superintendent, Health & Safety – Lac-Saint-Jean and Mauricie (Quebec) woodlands operations, was recognized at the 2023 Globee® Awards for Women in Business. She earned bronze in the Female Achiever/Committed Professional of the Year category for her role in implementing new H&S directives, enhancing awareness through impactful annual safety campaigns and fine-tuning safety protocols in order to meet the needs of the woodlands operations. This prestigious recognition program annually celebrates women who have made significant contributions to their respective fields, demonstrating exceptional leadership, innovation and dedication.

Company of the Year – Manufacturing

On September 20, 2023, Resolute won a gold Globee® for Company of the Year in the manufacturing category at the 11th annual Globee Awards for Leadership. Resolute was recognized for excellence in manufacturing, driving innovation and delivering high-quality products with precision and efficiency. The awards program honors remarkable achievements and groundbreaking strategies employed by individuals and organizations from all sectors and industries worldwide.

Employer of the Year – Manufacturing

On September 18, 2023, Resolute was named Employer of the Year in the manufacturing category at the Stevie® Awards for Great Employers. The awards program recognizes the world’s best companies to work for, and the human resources teams, professionals, achievements, new products and suppliers that help create and drive great places to work. Over 1,000 nominations from organizations of all sizes in 28 countries were submitted in a wide range of HR-related categories, and more than 100 professionals worldwide participated in the judging process.

 

Diversity and Inclusion

On June 23, 2023, Resolute won the Diversity and Inclusion Award at the 2023 edition of The Norns Awards, a global competition highlighting excellence and innovation. Resolute was recognized for our practices supporting justice, equity and inclusion, as well as for creating a diverse and inclusive workplace. The awards program received over 800 entries, and winners were selected by a team of international judges made up of professionals from various industries.

Solidaires Corporate Commitment Award

On February 8, 2023, Centraide of Greater Montreal honored Resolute with a Solidaires award in the corporate commitment category (999 employees or less) for its contribution to the organization’s 2022 fundraising campaign. The company was recognized for conducting an exceptional workplace campaign championed by senior management. Resolute’s support will help Centraide and its community partners fight poverty and social exclusion for nearly 800,000 people in the greater Montreal (Quebec) area.

Environment, Safety and Well-Being Recognition

CN’s EcoConnexions Partnership Program celebrates companies that are dedicated to building a more sustainable future by supporting climate action, reducing their environmental impact, promoting biodiversity and more sustainable and ethical business practices.

The Windsor Mill was named safest mill in category A – facilities with more than 80,000 worker hours per month.

Other Domtar mills took the top three spots in category C – facilities with less than 50,000 worker hours per month. The Saint-Félicien pulp mill finished in first place, while the Alma and Dolbeau paper mills finished in second and third place.

Our Kingsport Mill was named the 2024 Business Recycler of the Year by the Tennessee Recycling Coalition (TRC) during the organization’s annual Tennessee Sustainability Conference. The award is given annually to businesses that practice outstanding leadership in recycling and waste prevention. The Kingsport Mill award recognizes Project Smoky — the conversion of the facility’s uncoated freesheet paper machine into the company’s first 100-percent recycled containerboard facility.

The mill, which resumed operations in January 2023, is home to the second-largest recycled containerboard machine in North America and is the largest recycled manufacturer in the state of Tennessee. 

Pulp & Paper Canada named the Windsor paper mill the safest mill in category A – facilities with more than 80,000 worker hours per month.

The project to convert the Kingsport Mill into Domtar’s first 100 percent-recycled containerboard facility recently received the Pulp & Paper Safety Association’s prestigious Award of Safety Excellence.

Given annually by the PPSA board of directors, the award is the organization’s most prestigious honor for operating excellence. It recognizes each nominee’s safety program, record and continued efforts to promote safety culture. The Kingsport Mill was one of three deserving award winners, lauded for its onsite construction crews surpassing 2.5 million hours without a lost-time incident, making it one of the largest – and statistically safest – projects in our 175-year history.

The Healthiest Employers® annual awards program honors companies with outstanding health and well-being initiatives. This regional designation is conducted in more than 45 cities in the U.S. Domtar was honored to receive the award for our locations in greater Charlotte, NC (Rock Hill, SC; Fort Mill, SC) in 20182019 and 2020, Raleigh, NC and St. Louis, MI, in 2018 and 2019, and in Ashdown, AR in 2019.

The mill with the lowest total recordable incident rate (mill frequency) in each category is the winner for the year. Our mills in Windsor (QC) and Dryden (Ont.) ranked first for their 2019 results.

Resolute I-joist facilities recognized for safety and operational excellence

On June 18, 2024, Resolute’s two engineered wood products facilities were recognized at APA – The Engineered Wood Association’s 2023 Safety & Health Awards. Our Larouche and Saint-Prime (Quebec) facilities were both named to the Incident-Free Honor Society. Saint-Prime also earned a Three-Year Safety Award (2021-2023) and was named to the Annual Safety and Health Honor Roll. The awards program promotes workplace safety and operational excellence in the engineered wood industry in North America.

Paper and Forest Products Industry

On March 15, 2024, Resolute ranked in the top quintile in the Paper and Forest Products Industry category of the 2024 S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), finishing in the 80th percentile among 70 peer companies. Introduced in 1999, the S&P Global CSA is an annual evaluation of the sustainability practices of over 10,000 companies from around the world. The CSA focuses on various environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria that are both industry-specific and financially material.

Resolute recognized for excellence in sustainability reporting

On February 5, 2024, at MerComm’s Mercury Excellence Awards, Resolute received an honors award in the Annual Reports: Specialized – ESG Report category for its ESG at Resolute leaflet. For over 35 years, the international Mercury Excellence Awards competition, which honors outstanding achievement in professional communications, has recognized the best in public relations, public affairs and corporate communications. The competition is open to agencies, associations, corporations, government agencies, nonprofit groups and organizations from countries worldwide.

Resolute recognized for reducing carbon and environmental footprint

On November 15, 2023, Resolute was named a CN EcoConnexions partner in recognition of our sustainable business practices. CN’s EcoConnexions Partnership Program annually celebrates customers, suppliers and supply chain partners that are committed to reducing their environmental footprint and being part of the climate solution. Resolute was one of 68 companies in Canada and the United States who were honored this year.

Coosa Pines recognized for world-class workplace safety performance

On November 15, 2023, Manufacture Alabama honored Resolute’s Coosa Pines (Alabama) mill with a Safety Achievement Award for its 2022 world-class safety performance. The award recognized the pulp mill for successfully completing the year with a zero Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) incident rate. Manufacture Alabama is a trade association representing the interests of manufacturers and their partner industries and businesses across the state of Alabama.

Employer of the Year: Menominee Mill

On September 21, 2023, Resolute’s Menominee (Michigan) pulp mill was named Employer of the Year by the Marinette Menominee Area Chamber of Commerce and Michigan Works! The facility was recognized as an important local operation that, despite a major fire in 2022, kept its 100 workers safe and employed through a challenging time and was able to restart production within four months. The award also recognized Menominee’s contributions to the community, including several large donations through the company’s Safety Award Program.

Rising Star Award

On September 20, 2023, Alexis Bolduc-Gagnon, superintendent, health and safety, at Resolute’s Dolbeau (Quebec) paper mill, won the Rising Star Award at the Forest Products Association of Canada’s (FPAC) Awards of Excellence. The program recognizes individuals who help make Canada’s forest products sector a world leader in sustainable forest management and who advance the environmental, social and economic benefits of forestry.

Top 10 Under 40

In September 2023, Myriam Lapierre, environmental technical assistant at Resolute’s Saint-Félicien (Quebec) pulp mill, was named to Pulp & Paper Canada’s Top 10 Under 40 list. Lapierre was recognized for demonstrating exceptional dedication and expertise in her field, including supervising compliance and handling regulatory submissions for factors such as effluents and air emissions. The annual program celebrates the next generation of leaders in Canada’s pulp and paper sector by recognizing the leadership and achievements of workers under 40 years old.

Sustainability Product of the Year

On August 30, 2023, Resolute earned a Sustainability Product of the Year Award at the 2023 Business Intelligence Group (BIG) Sustainability Awards. The company was recognized for its novel cellulose filaments produced at the new plant located in our Kénogami paper mill in Saguenay (Quebec). The annual awards program honors those who have made sustainability an integral part of their business practice. BIG’s proprietary and unique scoring system selectively measures performance across multiple business domains and then rewards those companies whose achievements stand above those of their peers.

Excellence in Annual Sustainability Reporting

On August 23, 2023, Resolute won a silver award in the PDF Version of Annual Report: Company Fact Sheet (Forest Products) category at MerComm’s International ARC Awards. The company was recognized for its 2023 “Resolute at a Glance” leaflet. The ARC Awards are the world’s largest international competition recognizing excellence in annual reporting. The competition is open to corporations, small companies, government agencies and non-profits involved in producing annual reports, and is judged by leaders from around the globe in the fields of investor relations, writing, design and photography.

Sustainability Product of the Year

On August 14, 2023, Resolute won a gold Stevie® award at the 20th Annual International Business Awards® (IBAs) competition in the Sustainability Product of the Year (Canada and U.S.A.) category. This recognition commends the company’s novel cellulose filaments produced at the new plant located in our Kénogami paper mill in Saguenay (Quebec). The 2023 IBAs received entries from organizations in 61 nations and territories, and over 200 professionals from around the world determined the winners.

Larouche and Saint-Prime facilities recognized for their safety performance

In July 2023, our Larouche and Saint-Prime (Quebec) engineered wood products facilities were named to APA – The Engineered Wood Association’s Incident-Free Honor Society for achieving zero Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) incidents in 2022. Larouche also won a Three-Year Safety Award for recording zero incidents from 2020-2022. The annual awards program encourages and recognizes operational excellence in the engineered wood industry in North America, with the goal of reducing injury and illness rates year over year.

Sustainable Innovation Award

On May 16, 2023, Resolute won a Sustainable Innovation Award at the SEAL Business Sustainability Awards for our new Kénogami cellulose filament plant in Saguenay (Quebec). Resolute was recognized for entering non-traditional markets, being innovative in our bioproduct research and commercialization, and taking measured risks to accelerate the deployment of novel, environmentally friendly solutions. The SEAL (Sustainability, Environmental Achievement & Leadership) Awards is an environmental advocacy organization that honors leadership through its awards programs, while funding research and pursuing environmental impact campaigns.

Resolute recognized for animated capsules on sustainability

On April 14, 2023, Resolute won a silver award at the MUSE Creative Awards in the Video – Sustainability & Environment category for the company’s series of animated capsules on sustainability. The international competition annually celebrates the achievements of creative professionals, providing a standard of excellence for evaluating media design production and distribution.

Resolute recognized for animated capsule on climate change

On April 3, 2023, Resolute received an honors award at the Astrid Awards in the Video/DVD, Online & USB: Climate Change category for the company’s animated capsule on climate action. Entries were judged by an international panel of design professionals on the basis of concept creativity, clarity and production quality. Sponsored by MerComm, a global independent awards organization dedicated to defining the standards of excellence in corporate communications, the Astrids annually celebrate the best in international design communications.

Domtar a reçu une mention honorable pour son excellence en matière de conformité et d’éthique, grâce aux milliers d’employés qui suivent les cours de développement et de formation en ligne, et à l’équipe qui a mis en œuvre ce programme.

Le rapport sur la croissance durable de 2017 de Domtar a remporté le prix de ces deux catégories: «Créativité dans les communications » et « Ouverture et honnêteté » 

En ce qui concerne la catégorie « créativité dans les communications » des prix CRRA de 2018, les votants ont dû choisir le rapport qu’on lit avec un réel plaisir et dans lequel on arrive à faire passer le message grâce à un facteur déterminant, la créativité. Pour la catégorie « Ouverture et honnêteté » des prix CRRA de 2018, les votants ont dû choisir le rapport dans lequel l’entreprise se montre « franche », en racontant aussi bien les bonnes que les mauvaises nouvelles de façon à ce que le lecteur soit convaincu qu’on présente un portrait équilibré.

Domtar a obtenu le niveau bronze en 2019 dans l’indice de santé en milieu de travail de l’American Heart Association pour avoir pris des mesures importantes en la matière. L’indice utilise des pratiques exemplaires scientifiques permettant d’évaluer la qualité globale et l’exhaustivité des programmes de santé en milieu de travail.

Des études démontrent que les lieux de travail qui sont dotés d’une culture axée sur la santé, et de politiques et de programmes complets fondés sur des preuves, et qui bénéficient de l’appui de la direction, sont plus enclins à mobiliser leurs employés. Cela se traduit également par des employés plus sains et plus productifs.

Le sous-secrétaire du ministère du Travail, Mike Nemes, a visité l’usine de Domtar à Hawesville pour remettre un Prix du gouverneur en matière de santé et de sécurité en reconnaissance des 1 111 756 heures de production travaillées par les employés sans incident entrainant une perte de temps.

Remis par l’American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) – 2018 et 2019

Domtar a reçu le prix 2019 en matière de gestion forestière durable pour avoir fait la promotion de l’importance d’une gestion forestière durable auprès des propriétaires fonciers. Notre entreprise s’attaque aux défis de la certification des petits propriétaires fonciers dans la région du sud des États-Unis, en s’assurant d’un plus grand approvisionnement en fibres certifiées pour ses usines de pâtes et papiers afin de répondre à la demande croissante de sa clientèle.

Domtar a reçu le prix pour l’eau en 2018 pour le projet de conservation de l’eau de Hawesville.
